You have definitely heard enough rumors about New York. Well, if you talk to a native Knickerbocker, you will understand that most of them are no more than just a myth. And now we’ll tell you why.
1. The room on the high floor will grant you a good sleep
New York is a big noisy city. And Manhattan is its most busy part. There is no place for the tracks that pick up the rubbish in the middle of the day, so it has to be done at night. Though they are so loud you could be easily woken up. To protect you sleep we would advise you to find the room high enough.
2. Save some money choosing accommodation in New Jersey
Did you know Statue of Liberty is actually located in New Jersey? It will take you only 30 minutes by train to reach Manhattan from there. Also the striking panorama of Manhattan opens from this part of New York. The main advantage is much cheaper accommodation.
3. There ARE public restrooms in NY
Moreover, we can tell that there are the luxury ones. There is a restroom located at Bryant Park, and it even has fresh flowers inside. Of course, you can use one in a Starbucks, any hotel lobby or in the department store. But we can ensure you that it will be the extra measures. Grand Central Terminal and Pennsylvania Station also have quite clean bathrooms.
4. The subway will deliver you practically anywhere
Traffic jams are the daily routine of New York. In order to spare your time we advise you to use the subway. It is quite fast and cheap way to get to your destination. You can buy Unlimited Ride MetroCard for 31 $ and use the subway and city bus as much times as you need during the whole week.

7. “Off-Broadway” shows can also amaze you
This is not about the location of the theatre. It is about its scale. Off-Broadway shows usually legislate for not more than 500 spectators. Such shows can be as interesting as big ones. Sometimes they are deeper and will make you overthink stuff.
8. There is an alternative for expensive Times Square restaurants
9th Avenue is just a few blocks away, though it can offer a lot of budget diners with rather good quality of service.
9. Go to the museum on Friday night
And why not to go? Many museums offer discounts after 4 p.m., some of them are even free. Spend the night exploring history, art, culture or whatever else you are interested in. Don’t miss this opportunity!
10. Watch out while you cross the road
New York traffic is not only dangerous for drivers. There are thousands of walkers hurt in the accidents, and about 250 die. When you wait for the light to turn green, you’d better stay as far from the edge of the road as you could. And don’t forget to look around when you cross it.
11. Don’t be afraid of militaries with machine guns
They are patrolling the central streets to protect the citizens, not to attack you.
12. You can refuse of making photo with Elmo
Both New Yorkers and tourists are bothered by people that are dressed in doll-costumes of superheroes and Disney Characters. If they don’t let you go or harass you, don’t mind address to any policeman around.
13. New Yorkers are truly friendly.
We know you’ve heard a lot of New Yorkers being cold and indifferent to strangers. That is totally not true. The only thing is, you have to talk to them first and then they will gladly offer you their help.
14. New York has a lot of places for ice skating
The most famous rink at Rockefeller Center can fit at a time only 150 skaters, so you will have to wait long for your turn. It is also expensive. It will be better for you to go to Central Park Instead and skate on Trump Rink (it was named Wollman Rink before). The skating here is free. Moreover, this open-air rink will offer you a spectacular view of New York at night.
