St. Petersburg is the second largest city of Russia.it is a port city located on the North-West of Russia that is rich with historical and cultural attractions. Peter and Paul Fortress
According to the history the Russian emperor Peter the Great not only moved the capital of Russian empire from Moscow to St. Petersburg, he ordered to build this city on the empty spot. And in 1703 he ordered to build Peter and Paul Fortress. And he chose the perfect location for it to be noticeable. You can see it from the sea, from the ground and from the air. Since then it changed a lot of roles – from fortress to a prison. Nowadays there is a museum in there. We continue to talk about Peter the Great, an outstanding Russian ruler. Now we mention him because he managed the building of large majestic Summer Garden. The building started in 1704. Peter wanted the new capital of Russia to look European, so he invited a lot of foreign architects from different countries. The one who designed the Summer Garden was Dutch. The Hermitage Museum
The Hermitage Museum was founded in 1764 and is one of the world’s oldest museums. It is also the most famous and large one in Russia. The Catherine Palace (Tsarskoe Selo)
The Queen of Russia Catherine the First was obviously enjoying spending the money. In 1717 she decided to build the summer residence in Tsarskoe village and spent around 600,000 of rubies constantly making over the palace again and again during her reign. Though the building was completely destroyed during World War II, it was restored and nowadays is used by Russian government to held there large political and cultural events, where the first faces of the state and music stars take part.
The Russian Museum
This museum was founded in 1895. So it exists for 130 years, which is not too much if to compare it with the all duration of Russian History. Though the building itself is much older than the museum – there was a living block beforehand. Nowadays this museum gathers under its roof a lot of masterpieces that were being brought there during all time it exists. And it is definitely one of the largest and most significant museums of Russia.
Peterhof is a small town which is governed by St. Petersburg municipality. It is not even a town actually it is a diverse district that enacts as a great tourist attraction. Church of Our Savior on the Spilt Blood
St. Petersburg is rich for churches and we represent another one of them. Church of Our Savior on the Spilt Blood was built according to the will of Alexander the Third. He decided to honor his father this way. The building started in 1883 and lasted or more than 24 years. Later it was closed, then restored and opened its doors again to the visitors only in 1997, mostly as a museum. What makes this church differ from the others is its architectural style. St. Isaac’s Cathedral
Russia is rich with majestic Orthodox Cathedrals that will charm you by its architecture. The St. Isaac’s cathedral is the forth one built on the same spot.
